Kwara State, North Central Nigeria is poised to harness new opportunities for agricultural growth and investment following its participation in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s Validation Workshop on the 2022–2024 Agricultural Joint Sector Review (JSR) Report and the 3rd National Agrifood Systems Investment Plan (NASIP) 2025–2027.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Alabi, attended the workshop at the Abuja Continental Hotel, where policymakers, experts, and development partners gathered to review Nigeria’s agricultural progress and chart pathways for inclusive and sustainable food systems.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Dr. Alabi highlighted that Kwara’s participation was made possible by the foresight of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose leadership ensures the State remains at the centre of national agricultural discussions shaping policies, investment priorities, and donor engagements.

He disclosed that this proactive approach continues to position Kwara for accelerated agricultural development.
According to the Commissioner, the forum opens direct avenues for attracting agribusiness investments, expanding access to funding and technical support, and strengthening rural livelihoods.
Dr. Alabi further emphasized that Kwara’s involvement demonstrates the administration’s commitment to advancing food security, wealth creation, and agricultural competitiveness.
With this renewed focus, the commissioner revealed that the State is laying the foundation for a future where farmers thrive, agribusinesses flourish, and communities prosper.
Key highlights of the event included its formal opening by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi; a goodwill message delivered by the National President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Arc. Kabir Kebram; presentation of the Joint Sector Review 2022–2024 report by Dr. Azeez Muyiwa, the lead consultant; and insights shared by the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Regional Expert, Prof. Raphael Babatunde.
The forum also attracted other stakeholders committed to advancing Nigeria’s agricultural transformation.
