Expert advocates movement of mining rights to Concurrent Legislative List

The President of Kwara State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), Olalekan Ayodimeji has advocated for the movement of mining rights from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent Legislative List in Nigeria’s Constitution.

Ayodimeji who made the call in Ilorin, the state’s capital explained that the need becomes necessary to enable state governments to participate actively in mining activities in their respective states.

He observed with displeasure that the current practice in which only the Federal Government is allowed, under the law, to mine mineral resources, do not go well for the host states.

Ayodimeji, therefore, called on the National Assembly and other stakeholders to ensure that the current constitutional review allows state governments to have a stake in the mining of the mineral resources in their respective States.

The KWACCIMA President, who disclosed that the 8th Kwara  Trade Fair would hold in Ilorin,  from November 25th to December 7th  this year, pointed out that this would go a long way to showcase the State’s rich endowments to attract more investors to the state.

He then appealed to the Kwara State Government to stop double levies, to ensure ease of doing business in the state.

Ayodimeji equally appealed to the state government to fast track the take-off of the construction of rural roads under the World Bank Rural Road Scheme to enhance the movement of agricultural produces to urban centres.

The KWACCIMA President who enumerated the plans of the new leadership of KWACCIMA, appealed to both Federal and State Governments to ensure the protection of farmers, saying that insecurity across the country has affected food production.

He lamented the high rate of insecurity in the country and therefore called for urgent steps by the relevant authorities to salvage the country from hunger.
