The Kwara State Government has called on Muslims to uphold the values of unity, peace, and compassion as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr, emphasising the importance of fostering harmony in the state and Nigeria.
Leading a government delegation to the Ilorin Central Praying Ground on Sunday, the Majority Leader of the Kwara House of Assembly, Abdulkadir Oba Magaji, urged Nigerians to internalise the lessons of Ramadan beyond the fasting period.
“We urge all the people of Kwara and Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan in the intervening months. We should be our brothers’ keepers, be peaceful in our conduct, and pray for the peace and stability of Kwara State and Nigeria at large,” Magaji told reporters after the prayers.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who usually leads the delegation, was absent as he is in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj.
Magaji also called on citizens to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq, expressing confidence that “with collective backing, they would lead the nation and state toward greater progress.”
The prayer, led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Solihu, was attended by top dignitaries, including the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the State Traditional Council, Mai-Martaba Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
Also present were Senior government officials, religious leaders, and political figures, including Khalifatul Adaby Sheikh AbdulQodir Muhammad Kamaludeen; Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for Kwara State University of Education, Prof. Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem; retired Justice Idris Haroon; APC Chieftain Alhaji Yahya Seriki; and local government chairmen.
The Emir of Ilorin congratulated the Muslim community on the successful completion of Ramadan and prayed for Governor AbdulRazaq’s safe return from the holy land.
He also commended the administration’s efforts in maintaining peace and development in the state.
Alhaji Yahya Seriki, in his remarks, urged “the people of the Emirate to remain united, extend love to one another, and continue supporting the present administration.”
