Kwara State Govt to End Diversion of agric inputs

The Kwara state government says it is implementing concrete measures to ensure that agricultural inputs for 2025 reach the rightful beneficiaries in a fair, transparent, and structured manner.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Alabi, made this commitment while receiving a delegation of Local Government Development Officers from across the State in his office.

Dr. Alabi emphasized that the Ministry is reinforcing its distribution framework to guarantee efficient allocation while preventing any form of diversion.

“Agricultural inputs are vital investment in food security and rural development. We are committed to ensuring that all farmers receive what is due to them, based on their specific farming needs. This is not just about distribution; it’s about impact—ensuring these resources drive real agricultural productivity and long-term growth. We expect every stakeholder to uphold transparency and accountability in this process,” he stated.

He further assured the Development Officers that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is fully prepared to collaborate with relevant bodies to eliminate bottlenecks and enhance efficiency, ensuring that inputs reach genuine farmers.

Dr. Alabi also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his proactive leadership in agriculture, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing food security, increasing farmers’ productivity, and strengthening rural development.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Alhaji Abdullahi Ajia, Development Officer for Ilorin West LGA, underscored the importance of blocking all avenues for input diversion to ensure that only real farmers benefit.

He also emphasized that inputs should be distributed based on specific crop requirements, ensuring that soya farmers receive soya inputs, maize farmers receive maize inputs, and so on.

Alhaji Ajia reaffirmed the Development Officers’ commitment to supporting the State government in delivering on the agricultural agenda of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. He also noted that Development Officers are well-positioned to oversee Heads of Departments (HODs) and Extension Officers in facilitating agricultural growth across the State.

In a related statement, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reaffirmed its commitment to strict monitoring, transparency, and accountability in the 2025 input distribution process.

According to the statement, the Ministry will work closely with all stakeholders to implement an efficient, transparent, and farmer-centric distribution system—ensuring that government resources directly benefit those who need them most.
