The Women Committee of the Kwara State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has lamented the worsening economic situation in the country.

She said that many Nigerians can no longer boast of three square meal in their various households.

The committee said the current economic reality has forced a number of citizens to one and half square meal daily with some families sharing one meal in three days.

The state Chairperson of Women Committee of NLC, Mrs Victoria Agboola, said this at a special prayer and end of year get-together of the committee held in Ilorin.

She said the event was organized to seek divine intervention for the state and Nigeria as a whole to wriggle out of the lingering economic doldrums.

“We are here to seek the face of the Almighty God over our State and the nation at large for Him to make a way through for us in this our present economic situation where no family can boast of three square meals per day, and this had reduced us to a system of one and half square meal per day while some families are operating on one meal per two two or three days”, Mrs Agboola added.

She said the get-together session offered the women wing of NLC genuine opportunity and privilege to rub minds in love and unity as women to achieve their purpose and project for the future of the wing.

The chairperson of women committee of NLC assured members that her leadership would not rest in breaking barriers and paving the way for them.

Mrs Agboola applauded the state government for the support it has accorded women committee of NLC in the state and called for more of such.

She prayed for long life and good health for members to witness the coming new year.

“While wishing you Happy New Year in advance, I pray that as we make our journey through to year 2024, we will all have cause to rejoice and celebrate”, she added.

The state NLC Chairman, Comrade Muritala Olayinka, who commended women committee for its effort at bringing members on board, said the role of women in the society cannot be underestimated.

He pledged that the NLC would continue to partner with the committee to minimize violence against women in the society.

The NLC Chairman, however, urged women workers in the state to bear with their husbands while advancing their requests, saying that “the removal of fuel subsidy has made things difficult”.
