Kwara State: Police Rescues Widow Of Slain Monarch, Arrests 13 Suspects

The Kwara State Police Command, North Central Nigeria says it has arrested 13 male suspects in the case of the assassination of the Olukoro of Koro Kingdom, Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole.
Aremu-Cole was gruesomely murdered in his palace on 1st February, 2024.
This is contained in a statement by the Public Relation’s Officer of the command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun.
According to the statement, in the course of investigation, the Inspector General of Police IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun approved the deployment of a police chopper for aerial surveillance to help comb the forest/boundary between Kwara and Ekiti States.
The joint operation comprising the Police, Military, D.S.S, Vigilante/Hunters who combed the forest, yielded positive results.
The statement said the operation led to the successful rescue of the wife to the late monarch, Olori Iyabo Aremu-Cole and one other at about 22:3O hours of February 5th while the rescued kidnapped victims have been re-united with their families, hale and hearty.
It said; ”the 13 male suspects are presently in police custody and are undergoing vigorous interrogation with a view towards aiding the arrest of members of the gang at large.”
The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya has assured the people that he remained resolute in maintaining his stand that the perpetrators of this dastardly act would face the full wrath of the law.
Olaiya further urged the public to be calm and security conscious as they go about their daily activities without fear or anxiety.
VON gathered that the kidnapped wife of the Monarch, Olori Iyabo Aremu-Cole and the other victim were released on Monday night and arrived in Koro, Kwara State town where the incident happened at about 10.45 pm.
Oba ( Monarch) Olusegun Aremu-Cole, Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti, a retired Brigadier General who was in his mid sixties was assassinated by suspected Kidnappers in his palace on Thursday night while his wife and another person were abducted.
The Kidnappers according to eyewitness reportedly struck at about 9pm, shooting sporadically in the air.
