A Kwara State House of Assembly member-elect representing Ilorin South Constituency, Jimoh Raheem Agboola of the People’s Democratic Party has been sworn-in.
Mr Agboola was sworn-in on Tuesday at the hallowed chamber of the Kwara State House of Assembly by the Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu.
Only PDP member in the Assembly
The newly sworn-in lawmaker is the only PDP member in the 8th State House of Assembly.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Speaker disclosed that the swearing-in of the new member was as a result of a court order.
He therefore urged the new lawmaker to always uphold the guiding principles of the legislature.
Victory from appeal judgement
Speaking with newsmen shortly after administration of his Oath of Office and Allegiance, the newly sworn-in lawmaker described his victory as a product of Judiciary and promised his constituency of positive representation.
Jimoh Raheem Agboola was sworn-in after 14 months Appeal Judgement which ruled in his favour against Hassan Abdulazeez Elewu-Oluwanilo of the All Progressives Congress.
Appointment of Special Advisers
The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the appointments of three Special Advisers in the State.
The approval followed a message from Governor Abdulraman Abdulrazaq addressed to the Speaker, Yakubu Danlad-Salihu and read before his colleagues.
Danladi-Salihu noted that the appointment of the Special Advisers is in line with section 196 sub-section 1 of the constitution to assist the governor to perform his function.
Call to complete Kwara State University campuses
The Kwara State Government has been urged to put all machinery in place to complete the Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses of Kwara State University, Malete to serve the purpose behind establishment of the Institution.
The Chairman House Committee on Tertiary Education, Wahab Opakunle made the call while presenting a report on a Matter of General Importance titled “The Need for Speedy Completion of Ekiti and Baruten Campuses of Kwara State University, Malete” for consideration during today’s plenary.
Mr Opakunle of Afon Constituency observed that the work on Ilesha Baruba Campus was far below average when compared with the huge sum received by the contractor
The Speaker read the recommendations and called on the state government to direct the contractor handling the two campuses of KWASU to go back to sites to justify investment on the project without further delay and directed the House Committee on Public Account to investigate the contract.
