Kwara State To Host Nigeria Handball Championship
The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman has assured the Handball Federation of Nigeria of the state government’s support in the forthcoming handball competition billed to hold in Kwara State.
Representing the Governor, the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, said this while receiving representatives of the Handball Federation of Nigeria in his office.
He said the renovation of the handball court at the Ilorin Township Stadium will be completed, and all necessary facilities will be put in place before the game’s commencement.
He called for discipline among the competitors especially due to COVID-19 protocols, stating that movement around Ilorin by the athletes would be disallowed.
Mr Alabi also advised all competitors to be on ground for the COVID-19 screening before the commencement of the competition.
Earlier, the President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Ocheho appreciated the government for its support for handball, especially the “great work done in the Handball court at the Kwara State stadium.”
Ocheho also commended the government for hosting the Handball competition in 2019, and implored it to put a local organising committee in place for a successful outing.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of sports and youth development, Barrister Iyabo Banire expressed her delight at the excellent job done by the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq- led government in the sports sector.
She assured the association that the necessary logistics are already in place especially renovation of the handball court which is timely for the forthcoming championship.
