Labour and Employment Ministry mourns Ocholi

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige has declared today Monday 7th March, 2016 mourning day in the Ministry and its Parastals as a mark of respect and honour for the late Minister of State Labour and Employment, James Enojo Ocholi (SAN) who died along with his wife and son on the 6th March, 2016, in a ghastly motor accident along the Kaduna- Abuja Road.

Mr Ngige described the death of Ocholi Enojo James (SAN), as a sad incident saying “we have lost a legal luminary and community mobilizer with exceptional and visionary leadership skills, who has brought his wealth of experience to bear in discharge of his responsibilities as the Minister of State in the ministry as evident in the complementary role he played in the on-going efforts at resolving industrial crisis in the Oil and Gas including the Health Sectors.

Ngige added that Ocholi left the labour sector at a time when the nation greatly needed his deep experience as an arbitrator and international negotiator, noting that the vacuum created by his demise will remain difficult to fill.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ngige said a condolence register has been opened in honour of the Late Minister of State in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The Minister prayed to God to grant the Minister of State James Enojo Ocholi (SAN) his late wife Blessing and Son Joshua eternal rest and extended his condolences to the Ocholis, the Government and people of Kogi State.

Ocholi’s Profile

The Minister of state Labour and Employment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr James Enojo Ocholi, was legal luminary and community mobilizer with exceptional and visionary leadership skill.
He was a graduate of the Nigeria law School in 1986, held (LLB) HONS from the University of Jos, Plateau State in 1985.

Until his expedition into politics he was the Principal Partner and head of Chambers, Ocholi James (SAN) & Associates, had his pupilage in the law firm of Richard Efa & Co. (Calabar) and D.D. Abutu & Co. (Idah), a Legal adviser and solicitor to Government, Parastatals, Financial Institutions and Corporate bodies, James Ocholi is a member of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), and reputable international negotiator with experience in litigation in civil and admiralty matters, election petitions, criminal and commercial cases.

He had operated at various helms of affairs ranging from the private sector, to the academics, legal and political arenas, serving as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Salem University, Chairman, Disciplinary Committee Nigeria Bar Association, General Secretary, Nigeria Bar Association Lokoja Chapter, Kogi State, National Secretary, Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship International including Chairman, Constitution and INEC Compliance Committee of Merger Committee of All Progressive Congress, Deputy National Legal Adviser, All Progressive Congress (APC), amongst others.

Mr Ocholi, a Visionary Nigerian and motivational leader, served his Community, State and Nation relentlessly and selflessly, with integrity and high acumen. These exceptional qualities had endeared him to the people of Kogi State and propelled them to elect him as the flag bearer of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Kogi State 2011 governorship election.

His outstanding leadership qualities and excellent performance in positions held, had accorded him several recognition and awards among which are: Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including Ambassador of Conscience and Notary Personality.

Ocholi Enojo James was appointed Minister of State, Labour and Employment in November 11, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR. He was a member of the Federal Executives Council, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He was married to the late Blessing Ocholi (Mrs.) and their marriage was blessed with five children.
