The Labour Party (LP) has scheduled to host what it calls the ‘biggest car rally’ as part of its political activities aimed at sensitizing the electorate on the streets of Calabar, the Cross River state capital, southern Nigeria.
Sequel to the car rally would be a state-wide sensitization campaign on February 4, 2023 to garner more support for its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
According to the state chairman of the party, Mr. Ogar Osim, the LP is embarking on the rallies as part of its campaign in Cross River state.
“We need the people to know that on February 4, 2023, the Labour Party would be embarking on a state-wide sensitization.
“We are going to every local government area in this state with the message that the presidential ambition of Peter Obi is beyond ordinary politics.
“It is a divine movement rooted in the plans of the Almighty God for Nigeria.
“There is no amount of manipulation by the opponents that would work in this election because Peter Obi represents the spirit of freedom of our country.
“Two days after the state-wide tour, we will be rounding it up with the biggest car rally Calabar has ever seen.
“We are urging every Nigerian to be a part of this movement ordained by God himself.
“… We are not collapsing our structure into any political party as some of you have been made to believe. Rather, we expect other political parties to collapse their structures for Labour Party because we are the only political party with an ideology that will stand the test of time.
“As part of our sensitization programme, we urge the media to sensitize Nigerians to get their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and vote for the Labour Party on the 25th of February, 2023.
“In a few days, we would be celebrating the victory of Peter Obi; and all will enjoy the natural blessings and resources embedded in a great country,” he said.
A genius and gem
Also speaking, the coordinator of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council in Cross River state, Professor James Epoke said,
“Usually, you do not see me politicking. We used to be umpires until very recently.
“But I want to participate and tell you that we have hope. I have studied Peter Obi right from when he was the governor of Anambra.
“A genius can come out from anywhere and now we have a gem coming out from Anambra state.
“He is a former governor and we have seen all his agenda. He is coming to move us from a consumption economy to a nation of production,” said the professor.
He stressed that the LP presidential candidate and his running mate were in the position to fight corruption and urged the electorate to vote for Peter Obi at the February 25, 2023 election.
