During a courtesy visit to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, in Abuja, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NIS and the Lagos State Government.

The meeting highlighted the urgent need to optimize the immigration process at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).

Both the Ministry and NIS officials acknowledged that streamlining entry procedures at Lagos airport would improve the overall visitor experience and help accommodate the expected surge in tourists, especially following the successful tourism initiatives in the fourth quarter of 2024.

As part of these initiatives, they discussed strategies like introducing expedited processing lanes for international arrivals, better communication of visa-on-arrival regulations, and enhanced training for immigration staff.

Their goal, they explained, was to foster a more welcoming environment that would position Lagos as a top destination for international travelers in Nigeria.

Both officials also agreed that a smooth immigration process is crucial to strengthening Lagos’ status as a major hub for cultural, artistic, and recreational tourism, ultimately contributing to the state’s economic growth and global reputation.
