Lagos APC Chieftain Tasks Youths, Politicians on Humanitarian Service

Nigerians have been urged to prioritise humanitarian services by reaching out to the downtrodden in the society and further developing communities.
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area of Lagos, Mr. Adedeji Osinowo gave this advice during the 2024 annual end-of-year/Christmas party he convened to celebrate with children and youths within his community.
Speaking at the event, Osinowo, a Councillor representing Ward C at the legislative arm of the council mentioned that he grew up in Ikosi-Isheri environment said he is aware of most of the challenges being faced by the residents, stressing the importance of giving back to the community.
He said “The idea of hosting the annual event began 15 years ago as a way of celebrating and engaging local youths. In recent years, the event has expanded to include children. “We organised this party because the children are on holiday. We wanted to bring together all the children, whether from wealthy or less privileged backgrounds, to unite them as one.”
“I was born and raised here, and even as a politician, I continue to live among my people. I was once the youth leader of Ikosi-Isheri, and now I am a councillor. I believe politicians should always remain close to their people and not move away once they are appointed to office.”
The event which has grown over the years, according to him also includes other activities such as a medical outreach for the elderly, scheduled for December 24, and a street carnival slated for 30th of December.
Positive impact
The coordinator of the event, Mr. Sulaimon Salaudeen, explained that a youth-based group, the Sonaike Youth Association has been actively involved in the initiative to contribute positively to the community and grow the numbers of attendees that will participate in the yearly merry-making event.
According to him “The party started in 2018 with 200 children, but this year we have over 500 children attending. And considering the tough economic conditions, many parents struggle to afford Christmas treats, and this event will make the party an opportunity for children to experience the joys of the season”.
He also emphasised the need for well meaning individuals and politicians to invest in their communities and make a lasting, positive impact on the youths.
