The Lagos State government through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has called on resident to report cases of abusive acts on children, women and individuals.
The agency made the call after the arrest of a man in who allegedly abused his 7 months old pregnant wife till she had her last breath
The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi who confirmed that the incident happened at Ketu area of the state said that the Agency received a distress call after the victim complained of body pains as a result of the injuries she suffered during the bash which resulted to her death.
She said that her husband had allegedly serially abused her physically and otherwise, before the unfortunate incident which occurred on the 16th of January 2023.
It was also revealed that one of the family members confirmed that the deceased had earlier reported physical abuse to the husband’s family members, but nothing was done to address the issue.
Upon the receipt of the case, field officers from the agency escalated the case at the nearest police station where the investigation has commenced as the alleged perpetrator is currently cooling his heels in police custody as proper investigation begins.
A statement by Vivour-Adeniyi through the Head of the Public Affairs Department of the Agency, Mrs Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, reads “We sympathize with the departed and use this medium to reiterate the fact that every domestic violence is truly a potential murder case”.
“As we remain steadfast in our resolve to ensure SGBV menace is reduced to the barest minimum, We encourage anyone experiencing Domestic Violence to please break the culture of silence, to know that we believe them, even as they are encouraged to speak up and report to authorities such as the DSVA either via the toll-free line 08000 333 333 or at Novel House, Plot 3, Otunba Jobi Fele Way, Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja.”
