Lagos Charges Estate Facility Managers On Sustainability

The Lagos State government through the Ministry of Housing has charged facility management organisations engaged to manage the State Government owned housing estates to ensure their involvement in sustainability of the estates are justified.

The organisations were mandated to provide innovative solutions and be proactive in managing equipment and facilities of the State Government estates in their care.

Speaking at a workshop organised by the Ministry of Housing for all facility management companies handling the State-owned estates, the Commissioner for Housing Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said that the State Government’s commitment to ideal, functional and sustainable family life is reflected in the quality of facilities provided in all estates built by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He said Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made it mandatory for facility managers to be engaged for the management of all existing and new State-owned housing estates.

The Commissioner explained that the workshop, was organised to acquaint the facility managers with guidelines and standards put in place in all the State Housing Estates and to enhance their skills and knowledge in proactive management and maintenance of the housing estates

Akinderu-Fatai advised the facility managers to put their professional skills to optimum use and prevent the degeneration of facilities and the environment where the estates are located.

Improving facility

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Abdulhafis Toriola, reinforced the importance of the training which is to ‘’improve facility managers overall maintenance skills and customer satisfaction ethos. The Permanent Secretary stated that the primary responsibility of the facility is to ensure that the estates remain clean, hygienic and environmentally friendly all year round.

The Lagos State Ministry of housing in line with the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, created a facility management Unit in 2024 and the initiative has enhanced a professional maintenance of infrastructure and facilities with direct impact on sustainability.
