Lagos Governor Praises Jumia’s Impact On Nigeria’s E-Commerce Growth
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has praised Jumia Nigeria for its significant contributions to the country’s e-commerce sector, recognising its impact on economic growth and job creation.

The governor made the commendation when the management of Jumia Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit at the State House in Marina, Lagos.
He acknowledged Jumia’s evolution into a major brand in Nigeria’s digital marketplace, becoming a household name through its steady growth and innovation.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged the company to maintain its high standards of service delivery while exploring innovative ways to enhance customer experience.
He reaffirmed Jumia’s strategic role in the economic development of Lagos and Nigeria, particularly in job creation.
“Our administration has always prioritised creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Through various initiatives, we have strengthened the ease of doing business and fostered innovation to drive economic growth. We will continue to support businesses and create opportunities that will aid their growth,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He also expressed the state’s willingness to collaborate with the private sector to improve service delivery, infrastructure development, and create opportunities for Lagos residents, ensuring a sustainable and resilient economy.

Jumia Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sunil Natraj, commended the governor for fostering a business-friendly environment, which has enabled Jumia to grow from a Lagos-based tech start-up into Nigeria’s leading e-commerce platform, with operations in nine African countries.
Natraj highlighted Jumia’s contributions to employment, stating that the company directly employs hundreds of Nigerians and indirectly supports thousands more through independent sales agents and partners.
He emphasised Jumia’s commitment to improving customer experience and expanding retail access nationwide.
“Jumia aims to transform everyday life in Africa by making it easier for consumers to access goods and services conveniently and affordably,” he said.
