The Lagos State Government has partnered with Huawei Technologies to deploy four new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) sites across key locations in the state, aiming to improve traffic management and road safety. These initiatives highlight Huawei’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s infrastructure and digital innovation.

The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a press briefing on Thursday.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, has deployed four new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) sites across four locations in the state to improve traffic management and road safety.

“The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced this during a press briefing on Thursday, stating that the new installations will complement the existing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and other Traffic Management Solution (TMS) devices,” the statement read in part.

According to the statement, the newly deployed ITS sites are classified into two main categories: checkpoint sites for speed monitoring and e-police sites for detecting traffic violations. These systems are designed to enforce traffic regulations, manage vehicle speeds, and ensure safer roads across Lagos.

The checkpoint sites have been established at Alapere, where the speed limit is 80 km/h, and at Nitel on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, with a speed limit of 60 km/h. Meanwhile, e-police sites have been installed at Allen Avenue Junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road. These locations are equipped with high-definition cameras that monitor traffic violations, including running red lights, lane indiscipline, illegal U-turns, and reverse driving.

This initiative aligns with Lagos’ smart city ambitions, leveraging advanced technology to improve urban mobility and reduce congestion. The deployment of these ITS sites is expected to significantly benefit commuters by providing real-time traffic updates, enabling better route planning, and reducing travel times.

Huawei’s involvement in this project is part of its broader strategy to expand its footprint in Nigeria’s technology and infrastructure sectors.

The company has previously collaborated with the Lagos State Government to build a high-speed wireless government campus network using Huawei’s AirEngine Wi-Fi 6 technology, enhancing operational

The partnership between Lagos State and Huawei to deploy Intelligent Transport Systems marks a significant milestone in the city’s journey toward becoming a smart, efficient, and sustainable urban centre.
