Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to develop a vibrant community of Agripreneurs that will build on the template of food sufficiency in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this at the 2024 Lagos Food Festival held at Muri-Okunola park Victoria Island Lagos, with the theme; “A Taste of Culture“.

The Governor who also displayed his culinary skills during the cooking session at the event said that in the past years, his administration has been empowering small businesses through public-private partnerships and the state through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has boosted the small and medium business owners particularly in the food space.

Sanwo-Olu said Lagos had succeeded in bringing out micro and small food vendors as well as stakeholders while creating opportunities and wealth for them to impact the society positively and improve the economy of the state.

He restated the commitment of his administration  to collaborate with the private sector to further boost food value chain and ensure food sufficiency.

The food festival isn’t just about fun; it’s a launchpad for culinary talent and innovation. Year after year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has stepped up, making this festival bigger and better. It’s incredible to see so many people connecting and thriving because of it.

“This collaboration between the government and the private sector exemplifies what makes Lagos so special. I’m excited about what we’ve achieved and look forward to more amazing initiatives ahead.”

Boosting Tourism

In her remarks, the State Commissioner For Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, said that government is committed to using the food festival to boost entertainment, tourism and culture.

Looking ahead of the year 2025, Olusanya said “We have plans and we have always moved according to the plans. There is Agricultural road map from 2021 to 2025 and I think that we are on track, with regards to what we are doing around market infrastructure and what we are doing to assure our farmers, we want to assure us that we will have enough food come 2025 and we are working to ensure that prices are lower and we will continue to support Lagosians on that front.”
