The state Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Ms. Titilayo Shitabey, said this in a statement on Thursday during a three-day training.
She acknowledged it as first responders organised by the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender in collaboration with UNICEF, in Lagos.
Shitabey said, “This training is apt at a time when all hands are on deck in the state to eliminate gender-based violence as such violence was not only directed at the children but also society as a whole. I implore stakeholders to continue the conversation in order to end this menace.
“Cases are daily increasing and this training must also continue in order to deal with the emotional and psychological trauma of victims and seek for them, seamless access to justice with strong signals to perpetrators that they would be made to account for their actions accordingly.”
A UNICEF representative, Denis Onoise, noted that the workshop would improve the skills of first responders.
“The organisation is seriously concerned with rising cases of gender violence in the country, and this training was to improve first responders’ skills on issues of child violence, process and procedure to handle cases within the ambit of law.” Shitabey said.
