A member of the House of Representatives, Victor Ogene, has collaborated with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to distressed communities in Ogwu Ikpele and Ogwu Aniocha of Anambra state.

The communities are located in the oil-rich Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State which has been grappling with various challenges, including the absence of a traditional ruler in Ogwu Aniocha, who was abducted three years ago.

Prompted by the dire situation, the Lawmaker advocated for assistance from the House of Representatives while the intervention from NEMA was hailed by the constituents, who expressed their gratitude and referred to Ogene as a “Godsend.”

The relief materials, which include food items, clothing, and toiletries, were distributed to the communities in collaboration with NEMA. Ogbaru Federal Constituency is responsible for contributing 13% of the oil derivative to Anambra State, but the residents feel neglected by the state government.

Furthermore, in a bid to empower the youths of the area and promote self-reliance, Ogene organized a three-day training on renewable energy skills, specifically focusing on solar energy installation and maintenance. 100 participants took part in the training, which was facilitated by the Border Communities Agency (BCDA) and MODESCOM Solution Ltd.

The program aims to equip the participants with the necessary skills, start-up equipment, funding, and logistical support to enable them to pursue livelihoods in the renewable energy sector.

Highlighting the high levels of unemployment and economic depression in the area, Ogene stressed the importance of engaging the youths meaningfully and providing them with opportunities for economic growth.

The lawmaker’s efforts have received commendations from stakeholders, as they view the initiatives as a means of bringing significant opportunities to the region.

Participants in the training expressed their appreciation for the chance to learn about renewable energy and its benefits.

Nnamdi Obiekie expressed happiness at the opportunity to gain knowledge about solar system installation and maintenance, while James Adione acknowledged the economic advantages of renewable energy for self-reliance. Additionally, Miss Fate John was impressed with the information on how renewable energy can offer her a viable means of earning a living, dispelling the misconception that solar panel installation is a male-dominated field.

Meanwhile, the empowerment program spearheaded by Ogene aims to tackle youth unemployment and foster sustainable development in the Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
