Lawmaker Organises Cultural Carnival in Ebonyi State

The member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo (Ohanivo) Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Dr Kama Nkemkanma, at the weekend, organized a cultural carnival to harvest talents among his constituents.
Speaking during the event held at Central School Egunkwo Onicha Igbeze in Onicha local government area of Ebonyi State, Kama described the occasion as the second edition of “Ohanivo Unity Carnival,” he organized since his assumption of office.
He said the carnival would showcase the rich cultural heritage of his constituents; including the grand finale of the Face of Ohanivo Beauty pageant and Ohanivo talent hunt, stressing the theme was anchored on “Celebrating our heritage, building our future together,” reflecting their unwavering belief in the power of community and their determination to lay a solid foundation for generations to come.
The lawmaker recalled that he launched the maiden edition of the carnival, with a vision born out of his constituents’ collective desire to strengthen the bonds that tie them together, celebrate their rich heritage, and create a platform for fostering collaboration and understanding among themselves.
He expressed joy over the overwhelming turnout and successes recorded during the inaugural event, saying it proved that “reffect Ohanivo Constituency is not just a collection of communities and villages but a family united by shared values and aspirations.”
He expressed optimism that this year’s carnival would bring a greater commitment to unity, peace, and progress among the Ohanivo people.
The Labour Party legislator commended the state Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, on ‘his exemplary leadership, continual support and for providing fair and peaceful environment’ for the National Assembly lawmakers from Ebonyi State to operate and provide impactful representation to their constituents without unhealthy interference since assumed office.
He further said, “Ohanivo Unity Carnival is more than a celebration; it is a movement,” calling all and sundry to embrace their diversity as a strength and to work collectively for the advancement of their various communities in the constituency and beyond.
“Through the vibrant displays of culture, music, dance, and art that we will witness today, let us be reminded of the richness of our heritage and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
“Today, we also gather to celebrate the beauty, talent, and creativity of our young people. We are proud to provide a platform for our youths to showcase their skills, confidence, and charisma.
“The Face of Ohanivo Beauty Pageant and Ohanivo Talent Hunt are more than just competitions –
they are opportunities for our young people to shine, build their self-esteem, and develop their skills in various areas
“As we enjoy the festivities, I urge us all to reflect on the importance of unity and collaboration.
Let us continue to support one another, champion causes that uplift our communities, and strive for a society where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
“Together, we can overcome any challenge and achieve greatness,” Kama added.
The carnival recorded a mammoth crowd, including guests cutting across academic, business, media, political, and religion classes from the constituency and beyond.
Highlights of the event were talent competitions, including wrestling, singing, dancing, beauty pageants, traditional cultural troupes, a carnival parade, and bestowing merit awards to deserving personalities in different areas of human endeavors, among others.
Speaking, the awardees and special guests at the event, including the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Roy Umahi, Michael Anayo Okorie, among others, described Kama as a humanitarian leader who had shown capacity in alleviating the suffering of the Ohanivo people and assured him of their unalloyed support while in office.
Also, the Chairman of Ohanivo Traditional Rulers Forum, Eze Godwin Akpandu, and Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council, Onicha local government area, Eze Josephat Ikegwo, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for organizing the event and his effective representation in the National Assembly and therefore, declared their unwavering support for his second term in the office
