LG Autonomy: Nasarawa Government Sets Up Economic Council Committee

The Nasarawa State Government has set up an economic council committee that would check mate various activities of the LG following the supreme Court judgement on local government autonomy.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba stated this during a press briefing on the activities of state government.
He said an economic council committee which was set by the state government is to ascertain the number of the local government staff on the payroll.
“It was discovered that some local governments, especially development areas have over blotted staffs, so the screening has become necessary to ascertain the actual number of staffs in each of councils,” he stated.
The SSA further stated that the 13 local government chairmen were urged to acquire several hectares of land to enable them to embark on farming a particular crop of their choices to help in boosting the food security programme of the APC government of Governor Abdullahi Sule Administration.
According to him, two tractors each were recently distributed by Vice President Kashim Shetima, during his one day visit to the state, is to serve as a booster and source of encouragement to all the local councils areas to ensure food security.
On revenue generation, Ahemba, said the local government councils in collaboration with the State Internal Revenue Service, have been directed to engage the service consultants to boost their revenue generations.
He further disclosed that State Economic Council, has also directed all local government areas to submit proposals to the council before using the recent 400 million naira signature grant that accrued to each of the local governments in the state.
