The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudden Abbas has hailed the Supreme Court judgment granting full autonomy to local government administration in Nigeria. saying the 20 years struggle of constitutional amendments before the National Assembly relating to the issues of local government autonomy have now been made history.

The Speaker described the judgement as historical saying the impossibility has now been made a reality. He added that the Nigerian House of Representatives looks forward to a functional local government administration that will work for the people “devoid of excesses by the State Governors.

“The members have been very happy because history has been made. This is an issue that has been before the parliament for the past 20 years. All the constitutional amendments that were so far carried by the national assembly, one aspect of it has always been local government autonomy, how to make the LG to work independently. Today that impossibility has become a reality.

“Everyone is happy and we are looking forward to LG that will work functionally and will be able to work on their own and extend goodwill to their people undisturbed by the excesses by the state Governors” he said.
