The Inter-Party Advisory Council in Osun State says 16 out of the 18 registered political parties in the state would take part in the October 15 Local Government election.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Osun IPAC Chairman Simon Adebayo, flanked by 14 other chairpersons of various political parties in the state, declared readiness for the election.

However, he urged OSIEC to ensure the poll conformed with the OSIEC Electoral Laws and the Electoral Act, 2022.

He said, “The political parties under the aegis of IPAC met and rubbed minds together; concluding that since the Local Government and the Local Council Development Areas are the nearest to the members of the public at the grassroots, IPAC supports every positive step to bring good governance to the people.

“In this wise, IPAC fully supports the conduct of the election by the Election Management Body i.e. Osun State Independence Electoral Commission. Of course, we hardly need to emphasise that they must conduct the Elections transparently, making it free, fair, and credible.”

Also, IPAC secretary Tosin Odeyemi, who said the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Peoples Party were two political parties not interested in the election, explained that OSIEC notified parties for the poll in 2020.

“But because of COVID-19 and EndSARS protest, the election could not hold,” Odeyemi concluded.
