LG Election Processes Begin In Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) says it has begun processes for the elections of the chairmen and councillors for the 13 local government areas in the state.

The chairman of the commission, Mr Ayuba Wandai, announced this at a news conference on Thursday in Lafia.

He explained that the elections for the current chairmen and councillors was conducted on Oct. 6, 2021.

He also said that the current local government officials were inaugurated on Oct. 8, 2021 for a three-year tenure which would end on Oct. 7, 2024.

One year before

He explained that the law establishing the commission had given it the mandate to begin preparation for election one year before the expiration of the tenure of the occupants of the offices.

The commission is a law-abiding institution that has continued to promote the adherence to the laws governing the conduct of local government area elections in the state,” he explained.

The commission’s chairman also announced that political parties interested in featuring candidates in the elections should conduct their primaries from January 3rd to February 10, 2024 and address all disputes arising from such primaries.

He also announced that the elections for the chairmen and councillors would be conducted on August 31, 2024.
