The 14th Emir of Kano and former Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Muhammadu Sanusi II has advised Nigerians to live a truthful life that they can truly account for.
While addressing participants at a book launch held on Saturday at the University of Lagos, the royal father emphasised on the need for people to differentiate between what they are and who they are.
He said being materially wealthy does not in any way imply that God really loves the person.
“Piety is what truly matters and what God loves in people, does not include acquisition of wealth through unlawful means,” he stated.
“If you steal people’s money, ride a flashy car and live in a big mansion, what you are is that you are a rich man. But who you are in reality is that you are a thief. Though, no one dies except with the permission of the Almighty God. But despite this fact, if you kill someone, or you are instrumental to his death, who you are is that you are a murderer,” he further stated.
The author of the book titled: “Justified Living”, Imam Hussain Bin Hyacinth, an Islamic scholar and a senior broadcast journalist with Voice of Nigeria, stated that the key message of the book is to advocate moderate lifestyle, which according to him, is necessary for coping with the challenges of life.
He expressed his gratitude to the royal father and highly learned banker for his excellent lifestyle which he said was worthy of emulation and ‘a cardinal part of the book.’
While making his contribution to the book launch, Alhaji Danjuma Shu’aib Babah, the Director of Procurement, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of reading.
The event attracted experts from different walks of life such as Alhaji Tijjani Muhammad Borodo, the former Company Secretary of First Bank of Nigeria, Justice Tijjani Ringim of Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, Professor Khalid Adekoya, a professor of generics, University of Lagos and Mr. Yussuff Ajibola Yussuff, former executive director of Programmes, Voice of Nigeria, among others.
