An own goal by Jakub Kiwior and a late strike by Luis Diaz sealed a 2-0 victory for Liverpool against Arsenal in the weekend’s headline FA Cup third round tie at the Emirates Stadium in London, England.

The hosts started kai Havertz in attack, with Bukayo Saka and Reiss Nelson supporting on the wings. For the visitors, Darwin Nunez led the line while Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo were on the flanks.

Arsenal wasted a few chances in the first half and were made to pay as Liverpool captain Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick glanced off the head of Kiwior in the 80th minute.

As Arsenal looked for a way back into the encounter, Liverpool struck again to put the result beyond doubt after a brilliant piece of play.

After a counter-attack, Diaz then made sure of eight-time winners Liverpool’s place in the fourth round draw as he lashed home in stoppage time.

Arsenal have now lost three games in a row in all competitions as the match finished 2-0 in favour of Liverpool.

The Gunners’ poor finishing that has seen them drop down to fourth in the Premier League was evident again as they squandered a flurry of first-half chances to crash out of the FA Cup.

“The performance was there and the amount of chances too,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told reporters.

“We just have to win the game, but we lost it and we are not capitalising. To win games we need to capitalise.”
