Livestock Ministry Holds Consultative Meeting To Chart New Roadmap

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development in Nigeria has held a 2 day Strategic Consultative Session with Selected Stakeholders on Sustainable Livestock Development in Nigeria.

 

The meeting aims to harmonise key policies, research insights, and reports to shape a comprehensive roadmap for advancing and transforming Nigeria’s livestock industry for economic growth.

Stakeholders in the different aspects of the sector were engaged to ensure maximum impact in the Ministry’s activities.

 

In his remark, the minister of livestock Development Mr. Idi Maiha said the ministry will continue to engage stakeholders to achieve the desired result.

 

He urged stakeholders present at the event to come up with recommendations that can provide favorable outcomes when implemented.

 

“The essence of the meeting is to advocate for ideas from key stakeholders towards obtaining implementable actions that will be of benefit to the livestock sector and Nigeria in general”

 

“During the proceedings in the next two days, we desire precise, pinpoint recommendations that can provide favorable outcomes when implemented“.

 

Mr. Maiha said he is committed to repositioning the sector by pulling all human resources available as the sector cannot afford to fail.

“With the Ministry and the available human resources in Nigeria, the days of lamentation should be and indeed are over. We must come together and provide tangible results. We can’t afford to fail”

 

“We cannot fail. We will engage all stakeholders to achieve the desired results. We will link up with academia, donors, other MDAs and the private sector, among others, to drive the changes needed in the sector”.

 

He added that Nigerians desire change in the livestock sector, which is why the Ministry was created to address challenges facing the sector.

 

“Nigerians are looking for change. Change in areas of reduction of farmer-herder conflict, a change in the green supply of an affordable beef, dairy products, poultry, chevron, mutton, pork and other livestock products, as well as job creation and poverty reduction”.

 

“With the Ministry and the available human resources in Nigeria, the days of lamentation should be and indeed are over. We must come together and provide tangible results”.

 

The meeting had selected key themes such as Animal Health & Breeding, Livestock Entrepreneurship/Value Chains, Feed & Fodder-Grazing Reserves Development and Cross Cutting Issues for discourse.
