The Chairman of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, KANSIEC, Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka says the materials to be used for Saturday, January 16, 2021, local government election are made in Nigeria.

Prof. Sheka disclosed this to newsmen after the commencement of distribution of sensitive materials to the 44 Local Government Areas in the state.

He explained that there would be no delay in starting Saturday’s poll as both sensitive and non-sensitive had already arrived at the KANSIEC because they are made in Nigeria.

He recalled that there was a delay in the last Local Government election because the materials were supplied from China, assuring that the distribution of the sensitive materials would be concluded today and the voting commences at early at 8:am.

“Last year, the materials were supplied from China. The order was placed about two months before the election but the consignment did not arrive at Kano airport until about 11: pm on the eve of the election day.

“We had to start distribution around 5 am and that is why the election started late. But this time around, we already distributed the non-sensitive materials about two days ago. The sensitive one has started being distributed today,” Sheka said.

He also disclosed that about 48,000 ad-hoc staff would be engaged for the election, explaining that 4 electoral officers would be stationed at each of the 11,500 voting centres around the 44 Local Government areas of the state.

The Chairman warned against vote-buying and other electoral offences, stating that Whoever is found wanting will face the wrath of the law.”
