Low voter turnout has marked elections in Delta State. Voter turnout across the state is unimpressive compared to the turnout at the presidential elections.

A cross-section of voters attributes the low turn-out to the experiences from the last presidential election which they say was unsatisfactory.

Accreditation and voting to elect a new state governor and members of the house of assembly started early morning and is ongoing across the various polling units in Delta State.

Accreditation of voters started as early as 8. am in polling units 003, 004, 005, and 006 of Ward 9, Uzoigwe Primary School, West end, Oshimili South in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Officials of INEC, observers, youth Corp members and security agencies are on the ground as voters were arriving.

In Unit 18 and Unit 23 of Oshimili South, voting also commenced early with sensitive materials on the ground as early as 7. am.

Mrs Marlyn Daramola (New Okowa) who is contesting for a seat to represent the Ika North East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, expressed confidence in winning the polls.

On the turnout, she said that the people were taking their time to come out to exercise their franchise.
