The Labour Party governorship candidate for Anambra State,  Chief George Moghalu, has condemned the brutal killing of residents in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area, describing the incident as a stark indictment of the state’s deteriorating security situation.

The attack occurred during what witnesses described as a peaceful meeting of non-indigenes in the community. Several victims, reportedly including breadwinners and respected community leaders, were gunned down in cold blood by unidentified assailants.

In a statement issued on Tuesday , Chief Moghalu expressed deep sorrow and outrage, calling the killings a national tragedy and a wake-up call for authorities to act decisively.

I am devastated. My heart bleeds for the victims—fathers, husbands, and young men—gunned down while sitting together in brotherhood. How did we get here?” Moghalu asked.

“When did life become so cheap that armed men can storm a peaceful gathering and open fire without mercy?”

The Labour Party candidate urged the state and federal governments to urgently address the escalating insecurity, warning that continued silence and inaction risk tearing Anambra apart.

“We must all rise and say: enough is enough. My heart is with the people of Ogboji. My soul mourns with the Ebonyi community in Anambra. I weep with every mother, every child, every family left in sorrow,” he said. “This is not the Anambra we should hand over to the next generation.”

Moghalu demanded the immediate identification and prosecution of those responsible for the attack, stating that no community in Anambra should live in fear of violence.

“We cannot keep watching blood soak our land while we fold our arms. Let those responsible be hunted down. Let our people feel safe again. We owe it to every soul lost.”

He pledged that under a Labour Party-led administration, restoring peace and ensuring community safety would be top priorities.

“No one should die for being part of a community. No one should live in fear. We must heal this broken land, and by God’s grace, we will.”

The incident in Ogboji has reignited concerns over rising insecurity across Anambra State, with citizens increasingly calling for robust action to protect lives and restore order.
