Manchester City celebrated their 2022/2023 Premier League title triumph in style after beating Chelsea 1-0, courtesy of a lone strike by Julian Alvarez at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.
City manager Pep Guardiola made nine changes to the team that thrashed Real Madrid on Wednesday evening, with Alvarez starting in attack while Algerian Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden were on the wings. Chelsea featured a front-two of Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz as the Blues looked to rain on City’s parade.
Striker Alvarez opened the scoring for Manchester City in the 12th minute to send the fans at the Etihad Stadium into a frenzy. The champions looked unstoppable even with the number of changes to the side.
City dominated possession in the first half as Chelsea had no answers against a formidable side. However, the scores remained 1-0 to City at halftime.
In the second half, both sides created chances but could not find the net. Argentine striker Alvarez scored a second in the 71st minute for Manchester City, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review.
The match finished 1-0 in favour of Manchester City as the champions celebrated another Premier League victory in style.
