Market capitalisation gains N779b in mid-week trading

Equities transactions on the Nigerian Exchange closed positive in mid-week trading on Wednesday, making it the third consecutive day of gains this week.

The market capitalisation rose by N779 billion to close at N67,274 trillion as against N66,495 trillion recorded on Tuesday, while the all-share index appreciated by 1.17% to close at 107,822.52 points compared to 106,574.98 points of the previous day.

Similarly, the market breadth closed positive with 51 gainers and 16 losers.

Top on the gainers list were VFD Group and Ikeja Hotel, both with 10% price gain and closing prices of N52.80k and N14.85k, respectively, followed by Transcorp Hotels with 9.99% price appreciation and a closing price of N126.10k.

On the losing side were Computer Warehouse Group, Regency Alliance Insurance and Lasaco Assurance, with price depreciations of 8.95%, 7.89%, and 7.25%, respectively, to close at N8 65k, N0.70k and N3.20k.

Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 49.6 million traded shares, followed by Ellah Lakes with 34.5 million shares.

In all, Wednesday’s trading saw a total of 462.144 million shares with a market value of N10.2 billion traded in 15,629 deals.
