Media Prize Instituted In Honour Of Professor Oloyede

A media leadership excellence award has been instituted in honour of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

The award with the prize of N300,000 will be given out annually to a media professional in Nigeria, who excels in leadership qualities in the media career.

The media award was announced at the 7th Guild of Corporate Online Publishers,(GOCOP) by the Special Adviser and Acting Director of Research and Documentation, Buratai Leadership Center, Dr MS Abubakar.

Dr Abubakar said; “the media leadership award was in fulfillment and appreciation of outstanding and remarkable leadership qualities of Professor Ishaq Oloyede as an academic and administrator, who has demonstrated at all times that public service is an opportunity to serve diligently with utmost honesty.”

He urged other Nigerians to join him in this crusade of honouring trustworthy public servants in the country.

The acting Director of Research praised the honesty of Professor Oloyede in financial management at JAMB and University of Ilorin, where he served as vice chancellor, recalling that the JAMB Registrar has assisted many students in writing forward to their publications.

Earlier in his welcome address as the Chairman of the 7th GOCOP event, Professor Oloyede equally acknowledged the role of online publishers in diligent reportage and advocacy.

He canvassed for an equitable rewards system for public servants to curb corruption and the poor standard of living of civil servants as the current poor salaries of workers were no longer “a living wage”.

Professor Oloyede delivered an address of welcome as the chairman of the 7th GOCOP annual conference held in Abuja with the theme “Nigeria: roadmap for socio-economic recovery and sustainability.

The keynote Speaker Professor Uche Nwaleke spoke on the theme of the annual conference ‘Nigeria Road to Socio-Economic Recovery and Stability.

He advocated the need for economic recovery based on production in the non oil sectors of the economy.

The panelists notably, Hadiza Usman, Johnson Chukwu, and Professor Yakubu Ochefu, Secretary General Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian University called for a new economic frame geared towards the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
