Meta Tests Its First Proprietary AI Training Chip
Meta Platforms has begun testing its first proprietary chip designed for training artificial intelligence (AI) systems, marking a major step towards reducing reliance on external suppliers such as Nvidia.

Key Details:
Custom AI Chip Development: The in-house chip, part of the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) series, is specifically designed for AI tasks, offering greater power efficiency than traditional GPUs.
Collaboration with TSMC: Manufactured in partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the chip has successfully completed the tape-out phase and is currently undergoing limited deployment.
