Meta To Invest in AI-Powered Humanoid Robots
Meta Platforms is planning to make a substantial investment in developing AI-powered humanoid robots designed to assist with physical tasks.
According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, the company is creating a new division within its Reality Labs unit to drive this initiative. The memo, authored by Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, states that the focus will be on developing “consumer humanoid robots” powered by Meta’s AI models, known as Llama.
This move places Meta in direct competition with companies such as Tesla and Figure AI in the rapidly growing humanoid robotics sector.

The new robotics division will be led by Marc Whitten, the former CEO of the autonomous vehicle company Cruise. Additionally, Meta has appointed John Koryl as Vice President of Retail to boost sales of its augmented reality devices, including Quest headsets and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
Despite previous financial losses in its Reality Labs division, Meta considers this investment essential for future growth. The company aims to develop AI-driven sensors and software for robots, which could eventually be manufactured and sold by third parties.
