Microsoft launches standalone Copilot app for android

377

Microsoft has announced the launch of its AI-powered chatbot, Copilot, as a standalone app for Android devices.

The move follows the company’s rebranding of Bing Chat to Copilot just over a month ago.

The new app allows users to access their Copilot AI chatbot as a standalone service. It’s different from the Bing app which is primarily a search engine and focuses just on Microsoft’s AI technology.

Copilot uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 models to generate text, analyze images, and create new images.

Android users can access the chatbot’s capabilities via the Google Play Store, without needing a Bing mobile app or a Microsoft account.

The app is listed on Google Play Store as ‘Microsoft Copilot’ and it is developed by ‘Microsoft Corporation’. In the app description, Microsoft claims that the app will be ‘Your everyday AI companion’.

“Copilot empowers you with smarter ways to be more productive, creative, and connected to the people and things that matter to you.” Microsoft said.

The standalone app provides users with a streamlined experience, devoid of unnecessary features found in other apps, and significantly enhances the overall user experience. It is compatible with Android 11 and above.

Microsoft Copilot was quietly released on Android without much fanfare, which is unusual for a significant product launch. However, this demonstrates Microsoft’s confidence in the product’s performance and potential to attract users through its functionality rather than marketing hype.

The chatbot also has a dedicated web interface where users can interact with the bot on their desktop computer. The AI experience is also available for Windows 11 and Windows 10 PCs.
