Microsoft to Train 1 million Nigerians in AI Skills

Microsoft has announced a $1 million investment to equip one million Nigerian youths with Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills over the next two years.

The initiative aims to enhance digital literacy and create new job opportunities in Nigeria’s growing tech sector.

The announcement was made by the Managing Director of Microsoft Nigeria, Ola Williams, during the Microsoft AI Tour in Lagos. She emphasised that Nigeria’s large youth population presents a significant opportunity for AI-driven economic growth.

According to Williams, AI is rapidly transforming industries, and equipping young Nigerians with AI skills will enable them to work more efficiently and competitively in the global digital economy.

“This investment will help young Nigerians develop AI expertise, opening up new employment opportunities in the digital space. We encourage Nigerians to take full advantage of this initiative,” Williams stated.

Also speaking at the event, Microsoft’s President for Africa, Lillian Barnard, highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering AI-driven innovation across the continent. She stressed that AI has the potential to unlock economic opportunities and improve productivity across various sectors.

The AI training programme will provide participants with hands-on experience, industry certifications, and access to cutting-edge AI tools. By investing in digital education, Microsoft aims to empower Nigerian youths with the skills needed to thrive in the evolving job market.
