The high command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, has vowed to rescue all the abducted students of Government Science School, Kankara, Katsina state alive and unhurt.
The Coordinator, Defence Media Information, Major General John Enenche stated this at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja while confirming that all abducted student are alive in captivity.
He said that the military was already on ground, conducting operations in an efforts to rescue the abducted students.
Major General John Enenche said following the kidnaping of the 333 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Katsina State, the Minister of Defence along side the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence, Naval, and Air Staffs, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Inspector General of Police among other principal security personnels were in Katsina to assess the situation with the aim of getting back the Kidnapped students.
“They entered the school compound, wounded the police there badly. They came in motorcycles and started shooting sporadically into the air in the school compound. The students began to run helter-skelter, and of course, they moved some of them.”
“When troops came, it was not in the best interests to do direct shooting. They were shooting into the air, because the children were used as bodyshields.”
“While the fire lasted, they moved the children. We used indirect fire because these children must be rescued alive. It is the characteristics of terrorists, immediately they are loosing strength where they are, they begin to look for soft targets. That was what they did,” Enenche said.
General Enenche also said the Nigerian troops in the front lines have continue to sustain momentum in the various operations against criminalities across all the theatres of operations laying ambushes with air bombardments that resulted into killing of so many of the criminals.
General Enenche said the military high command continues to encourage the troops and personnel of other security agencies to sustain the tempo, remain determine in all operations while expressing the determination of the dedication of the armed forces towards securing the nation at all times.
He also enjoined members of the public to continue to provide timely information on activities of criminals in their locality for prompt action.
