The Head of Zambian Defence Force team to the African Military Games, Colonel David Lungu has stated that military training and discipline across the continent does not give room for misbehaviour.

Colonel Lungu who is also a Director of sports in the Zambian Defence Force was speaking in an interview in Abuja Nigeria, during the African Military Games 2024.

Speaking with Voice of Nigeria’s Defence and Security Correspondent Nokai Origin at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Colonel Lungu says Nigeria has made its mark in the continent in military operations and have also distinguished themselves in hospitality and brotherhood.

The Zambian delegation leader who said bringing people together in a platform like sports strengthens unity between all African nations.

“Our forefathers had laid the foundation that we should be united as one Africa, even now, we take it that if one country in Africa goes down, all countries go down. I’ll give an example, when we, military personnel, meet out on UN operations, as long as you’re from an African country and you’re put together, whether you’re from east, north, south, northeast of Africa, the fact is because you’re African, you always bond”

“Languages differ, but somehow there will just be some bond there, I feel this games opens that scenario more because it’s in a peaceful, open environment, everyone is laughing, having fun, playing games, this is something we should encourage more often.

Colonel Lungu stressed that sports is known to bring people across the globe together and it is one avenue that speaks the language of unity.

When asked about Nigeria and his impression of the country, he said “it is my second time in Nigeria, I first came to Nigeria in 2018 when I was doing a military course, so, I did my study tour in Nigeria and it was right here in Abuja” to the military Cantonment, Defence Headquarters, the Air Force Base, we went down to Kaduna as well, Jaji College to be prprecised, the first time I was a student but now I’m here with a free mind”.
