Mineral Exploration: Nigerian Government begins Mapping of Doma Sheet
Amina Mohammed, Lafia.
The Nigerian Government has commenced the mapping of the Doma Sheet for mineral exploration in Nasarawa State, North-Central Nigeria.
The Director, Regional Geology, Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, Dr. Davis Olapade, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu in Lafia, the state capital.
Dr. Olapade said the Doma Sheet 230 is one of the 337 sheets in the country, and the search for critical minerals is for the benefit of the state and country at large.
He said that a mineral identified can change the story of the country’s economic well-being, while further soliciting the state’s support in logistics, security, and others.
Responding, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, thanked them for the visit and assured them of maximum support in the course of their assignment.
“Nasarawa State houses the largest mineral deposits of great variety in the country.
“I am confident that the result of the survey will be of mutual benefit to the State and the country.
“There is, therefore, the need for a compelling partnership with the Agency to add value to the State’s economic potential,” said Hon. Yakubu.
The Nigerian Geological Survey Agency is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.
