The Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, has issued the FCT Administration a seven-day ultimatum to implement the payment of the arrears of the new minimum wage of pensioners.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State secretary of the Union, Comrade Muhammed Ndaman, after their meeting in Abuja.
The statement said the meeting was demanding for the refund of the twenty-five percent withheld for retirees that are not entitled to pension.
“Others are the refund of 7.5% deducted money, which was not remitted to their various pension fund administrators and non-refund of 2.5% housing fund for their members,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the FCT Nigerian Union of Pensioners had earlier held a meeting with Mr Titus Okoro, the Personal Assistant to the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, on Labour Matters, who promised to arrange a meeting between the Minister and the pensioners from the eighth to tenth of this month, but to no avail.
“The FCT pensioners with reference to their earlier letter dated 13th October on the same subject matter and response through the FCT technical assistant industrial relations has unanimously agreed that a seven-day ultimatum should be issued.
“If nothing happens on or before the 22nd November, the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, FCT chapter, will embark on a peaceful assembly in front of the Minister’s office,” the Union stressed.
