President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the Organized Labour in Nigeria at the State House, Abuja

The Organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), arrived at the State House at about 2pm, local time, for the meeting expected to end conflicting issues about the new national minimum wage.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and the TUC President, Festus Osifo, led other members of the two Labour organisations.

The Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage had submitted two figures to the President as the organised private sector and the government team had offered to pay N62,000, while the organized labour demanded N250,000.

Following the disagreement over the figure, the President has continued consultations with key stakeholders and delayed sending any figure to the National Assembly through an Executive Bill.

Besides the representatives of the organised Labour, also attending the meeting, on the government’s side are the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Ministers of Health, and coordinating Minister of Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate. Others are the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris and  Education, Prof Mamman Tahir.
