A non-governmental organization, Global Perspective and Social Development Center, (GPSDC) has called on the Enugu state government to be more gender positive by including women in decision-making regarding mining activities in the state.

The Executive Director of GPSDC, Eucharia Anekwe made the call during a workshop on gender-inclusive climate change held in Enugu.

Anekwe said gender inclusivity in mining activities in Enugu state should involve ensuring that both men and women have equal opportunities, benefits, and representation in the mining sector.

According to Anekwe, gender inclusivity in mining should lead to: “Increased economic empowerment for women, improved working conditions and safety.

“In Enugu state, gender inclusivity in mining can also help to address issues such as women’s limited access to land and resources, lack of representation in mining communities, gender-based violence and discrimination in mining camps.”
