Idris said the team showed resilience and courage in a tense match that ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of play. He said the team demonstrated the true spirit of Nigerian football and that they were one step away from lifting their fourth AFCON trophy.
He also called on Nigerians to rally behind the Super Eagles in the final match.

“The entire nation rallies behind the Super Eagles as they prepare to make history and write their names in gold in African and global football,” Idris said in a statement.
Two saves from Bobo Nwabali helped Nigeria beat South Africa on penalties and reach the final of the AFCON. They will now meet the winner of the match between Cote d’Ivoire and DR Congo in the final.
The 2024 AFCON is the 34th edition of the continental football tournament, which features 24 teams from Africa. The final will be held on Feb. 11 in Abidjan, the capital of Cote d’Ivoire.
