The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has described the launch of the Community Food Bank Trust Fund by the Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, as a critical intervention to address food insecurity and support vulnerable Nigerians.

In a goodwill message, Sulaiman-Ibrahim reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening food security through strategic policy frameworks and aligned interventions.

She stated that it is “not merely to launch a programme, but to reaffirm our shared commitment to ensuring that nutritious, life-sustaining food reaches every Nigerian household, especially the most vulnerable.”

The Minister noted that the initiative underscored a collective resolve to confront hunger, strengthen families, and advance social protection systems across the country.

“This visionary programme is inspired and championed by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, whose unwavering compassion and leadership have earned her the cherished title of Mother of the Nation,” she said.

According to the Minister, the initiative directly embodies the Presidential Declaration of 2026 as the Year of Families and Social Development and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Highlighting policy measures already in place, she said; “the Ministry has developed national nutrition guidelines, established a dedicated Department of Nutrition, promoted Tom Brown as a staple food, and created Tom Brown Centres as community hubs for food distribution and nutrition education.”

“These initiatives aim to reach over 5 million women and children, improve household nutrition, promote sustainable food practices, and link local agricultural value chains directly to families in need,” she stated.

According to her, “the structures position the Ministry to accelerate collaboration and maximise the impact of the Community Food Bank Trust Fund.”

The Minister emphasised the role of women’s groups in driving implementation, noting that their engagement ensures wider reach and sustainability.

“At the heart of this initiative lies a recognition of the Care Economy, central to the Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention (RHSII-774). Women perform over 70% of household care work, the labour that sustains families and communities daily. Supporting women through this programme strengthens families, enhances child nutrition, boosts social resilience, and accelerates poverty reduction,” she explained.

She further noted that the Trust Fund, domiciled at the Bank of Agriculture, guarantees “sustainability, transparency, and long-term impact,” and is projected to positively affect about 20 million Nigerians within its first five years.

The Minister said, “I reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to work in full partnership with the Board of Trustees, women’s groups, and all stakeholders to ensure the success of this transformative initiative.

“Together, we will build a healthier, more resilient, and food-secure Nigeria; where every family can thrive, and no child or household is left behind.”
