Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has inaugurated a 17-member Ministerial Delivery Task Team to assess and report on the performance of the digital sector.

Tijani was represented at the inauguration by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Faruk Yabo, on Friday in Abuja.

The Minister noted that this action aligns with the eight pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda under the President Bola Tinubu administration.

He emphasized that the digital sector is crucial and significantly influences various sectors of the economy including health, education, and power, among others.

“To underscore the significance of the task at hand, the entire delivery of the democratic dividends to the nation has its anchor here in this ministry.

“We play a key role in Mr President’s vision to attain societal and prosperous status, therefore the job you are called upon to do is significant in its actualisation,” he said.

The Minister explained that the team comprised top talent from the ministry and its agencies to ensure quality in data collection, evaluation, and reporting on digital economy performance.

He urged team members to view their selection as a testament to the confidence placed in them by their respective offices.

He encouraged them to strive to understand the five pillars represented by their agencies, which should be reflected in their tasks.

Tijani emphasized that the team should comprehend the operations, mission, goals, and objectives of the agencies and departments.

He stated that team members should grasp the scope of work for different budgeting years in alignment with the Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint’s five pillars template.

The purpose of the task team, he emphasized, was to understand the contributions of each technical department within the ministry and various agencies to these five pillars.

He encouraged them to collaborate with their press units to ensure thorough documentation of their assignments, including relevant pictures.

Earlier, Mrs. Ogunfuyi Ibukun, Delivery Manager at the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), explained that the team was established to monitor the implementation of the eight presidential key priorities.

Ibukun stressed that CDCU alone couldn’t accomplish this task, necessitating the formation of the ministerial delivery task team.

She underscored the importance of this task, describing it as crucial, sensitive, and patriotic, focused on expediting government development initiatives and ensuring transparent governance.

In his remarks, Mr. Raymond Linga, the Ministry’s Deputy Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS), urged team members to give their best as high expectations rested upon them.

Linga clarified that the inauguration followed the signing of the Ministerial Performance Bond, which involved President Bola Tinubu, the Ministers, and the Permanent Secretaries.
