Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has celebrated the strength, love, and resilience of mothers, describing them as the pillars of families and the heartbeat of communities.
In her Mother’s Day message, the Minister highlighted women’s socio-economic contributions, saying:
“Women make up almost 50% of Nigeria’s population. Millions of Nigerian mothers are entrepreneurs and small business owners. Women are key drivers in agriculture, education, healthcare, and the informal economy. When mothers thrive, Nigeria prospers.”
She emphasised the critical role of mothers in shaping the nation, “Through their care, sacrifice, and unwavering resilience, mothers nurture the next generation and shape the future of our nation,” noting their indispensable contribution to building strong families and a stronger Nigeria.
“On this special day, I honour the invaluable role mothers play in building strong families and a stronger Nigeria. Your dedication, wisdom, and compassion continue to inspire hope and progress in our society,” the Minister said.
Extending the celebration to mothers across the diaspora, she said:
“Motherhood is a powerful force of nurturing, resilience, and hope. Every day, Nigerian mothers play a vital role in guiding the next generation, sustaining our homes, and contributing meaningfully to the progress of our society.”
Sulaiman-Ibrahim further noted that across Nigeria, millions of mothers play a vital role in raising children, sustaining families, and supporting communities, stressing that transformative leadership begins at home.
“From rural communities to urban centers, mothers provide care and emotional support, economic stability for families, and guidance for the next generation. Their contributions are the backbone of national development.
“Today we celebrate every mother whose love, sacrifice, and resilience shape the future of Nigeria. Your strength inspires our commitment to build a nation where women and families can thrive,” she said.
Reaffirming government commitment, Sulaiman-Ibrahim stated that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs continues to promote women’s economic empowerment, protection of women’s rights, and access to education and opportunities for women and girls, emphasising that, “Because empowering mothers strengthens the entire nation.”
