The newly inaugurated Nigerian Minister of Environment, Dr Ishaq Salako says it is not going to be business as usual, but that he will work to ensure Nigeria take its place as the giant of Africa in the areas of environmental sustainability.
The Minister, who stated this during his inaugural press briefing after his Inugurataton by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, the nation’s capital, said environmental protection is going to be one his administration priority.
He said that his administration would do everything to ensure the environment is kept in a sustainable manner.
“Our responsibility as the Ministry of Environment is to ensure that the environmental sector demonstrates that Nigeria is truly a gaint.” He added.
Dr. Salako, however, called on the staff of the Ministry to work as a team to ensure that President Bola Tinubu realised his renewed hope agenda.
Representative of the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Environment, Director Pollution Control and Environmental Health Department, Ministry of Environment, Mr Charles Ikeah said that the ministry would work assiduously by providing all the necessary) support to the Minister.
“Let me use this opportunity to assure you of our unalloyed support. Environment is a critical sector, and it touches every sector of our economy . Without factoring in the environment and developmental activities, of course, we will not achieve sustainable development. ” He said.
