The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has called on the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, to deploy its expertise in the service of Africa’s most populous country.

Idris made the call when he spoke as a Special Guest of Honour at the NIPR 2023 Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Beyond the corporate boardrooms and campaign strategies, let us also remember our broader societal role,” the Minister told the gathering, which included members of NIPR from various parts of the country.

Idris said; “Our craft can be a force for positive change, amplifying voices that otherwise go unheard, driving awareness on social issues and catalysing meaningful dialogues.

“Let us cease this opportunity to commit ourselves not only to our clients and organisations but also to the greater national good.”

The Minister noted that the days of propaganda were over and that credible information dissemination would build trust among the citizens, thereby reopening constructive conversation between the government and the people.

“It is this vision that will guide the implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the Minister said.

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council, NIPR, Mukhtar Sirajo commended the appointment of key members into positions in government, including the Minister of Information.

He said the appointment showed that the government recognised the important role that members play in national
development.

The event, which began with arrival of delegates on Wednesday, has the theme: Leadership, Public Relations, and Value Creation.

The event has drawn public relations practitioners from across the country to the Nigerian capital in Abuja in preparation for the election of new Council members.
