Minister of Women Affairs Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has felicitated Nigerian Christian mothers on the occasion of the 2025 Mothering Sunday.
In a message to commemorate the day, the Minister said it was not just a day of honour, reflection, and celebration, but also a moment to recognize the immense contributions of mothers in shaping homes, communities, and the nation at large.
“A mother’s love is one of the greatest forces on earth. It is selfless, resilient, and unwavering. From the cradle to adulthood, mothers nurture, guide, and instill the virtues of faith, integrity, and service. Your dedication to raising responsible children, strengthening family bonds, and upholding moral values is truly commendable.”
Sulaiman-Ibrahim urged Christian Mothers to rise to the challenge of building a more inclusive, progressive, and compassionate society.
“The world is changing rapidly, and the need for bold action to address gender equality, women’s empowerment, and family well-being has never been more urgent.”
While recalling that the 2025 Women’s Month theme is “Accelerate Action,” she charged mothers to keep advocating, educating, and championing economic empowerment for women in communities, churches, and society to contribute to Nigeria’s growth.
“Now is the time to accelerate action in ensuring a safer, healthier, and more equitable Nigeria for women and children.”
The Minister further reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to formulating and implementing policies and programmes that uplift mothers, protect their rights, and create opportunities for their advancement.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every mother in Nigeria has access to economic empowerment, quality healthcare, and a secure environment to raise their children.”
While urging Nigerian Women to extend their influence beyond their homes to drive positive transformation, she further encouraged them to stand firm in faith as they embrace the divine call of motherhood and continue to lead, with love, wisdom, and strength.
Mothering Sunday is observed on the fourth Sunday of Lent in the Christian calender. It serves as a day to celebrate and appreciate mothers and mother figures.
Mothering Sunday is linked to Easter season, which changes annually according to the Church Year Calendar and as such has no fixed date for commemoration.
